The Wildcats faced off against the Dixon Bulldogs in a Frisco League contest Friday night.
In the varsity game, the Wildcats played hard to the final horn. Aggressive play on defense forced 25 turnovers, with 21 points scored off those.
In the first quarter the Cats took a 15-14 lead to start the game, but in the second quarter the offense stalled, only scoring five points and having several costly turnovers that let the Bulldogs take a four-point lead into halftime.
“We talk about our defensive intensity every day, it was evident in the second quarter as we forced 10 turnovers and held Dixon to only 10 points. We just weren’t able to hit several of our wide-open shots to put more points on the board.” ~ Coach Chris Harris
In the third, the Cats fought back, winning the quarter 16-15 and closing the lead to 3. The defense forced seven turnovers in the third, scoring seven points on them. In the fourth, the scoring was back and forth, and Licking was unable to close the gap in the end. In the closing seconds, the Cats were able to get a shot that would have tied the game and sent it to overtime, but it fell just a little short. The final score of 51-54 gave Licking its first loss in conference play.
Licking is now 5-1 in conference and 11-9 overall.
In the JV game, the Cats fought hard but came up short, losing 38-49.
After a close first quarter, the Cats struggled to score over the next two quarters. Dixon was able to extend their lead to 20 at the end of the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Cats turned up their defensive intensity and held Dixon to only four points while scoring 13 to close the gap to 11.
Brayden Moberly had 12 points and Parker Huff added 10.
“While not the outcome we were looking for, we are seeing their improvements and their hard work.” ~ Coach Chris Harris
