Licking Elementary holds Open House and Back to School Supply Bash

Licking Elementary held an Open House Monday beginning at 4 p.m., and parents and children lined up to wait for the doors to open. In addition, generous community donors and local churches joined forces to sponsor a Back to School Supply Bash in the FEMA gymnasium, making it convenient for parents and students to stock up on necessary school supplies.
Those attending could meet the teachers, find their way to classrooms, discuss bus routes and pickup times, enjoy a cookie and lemonade while meeting the kitchen staff, and finalize any incomplete paperwork to get students ready to begin school on Wednesday morning.
In the FEMA gym, tables of supplies were laid out for each class. Licking Christian Church, Boone Creek Baptist Church, Abounding Hope Church, Rock Springs Baptist Church, First Baptist Church, Licking United Methodist Church, Licking Pentecostal Holiness Church and Licking United Community Help Center gave out classroom supplies, disinfecting wipes, tissues, and other supplies to students.
Licking Assembly of God held an event earlier in the month, which provided 150-170 free haircuts for students, served 500 hot dogs and 15 gallons of iced coffee, and gave supplies to prepare for back-to-school.
One volunteer described Monday’s circle of tables in the FEMA gym, all filled with supplies and tended by volunteers, as symbolic of the community and churches unifying to surround the children with love and support as they prepare to begin their new school year. Without a doubt, the uplifting way the community joins together to assist families at this financially stressful time of year is truly heartwarming.
