The Licking News will transfer to the capable hands of Heather Hawn at the end of the year.

Concerns about The Licking News closing its doors have been for naught; effective at the end of the year, the newspaper will welcome Heather Hawn as owner and publisher.

Hawn is a former teacher and coach at Licking High School, and has been a member of the Licking community for 22 years. Her parents, Herman and Janey Hall, are Licking High School alumni, as are her sons, Clifford and Christian Hawn. She is married to Conway Hawn, who is a local attorney.

Heather Hawn emphasizes that she wants to continue the tradition of local coverage of school and community events.

“The newspaper is the written record, and the heart and soul of the community,” she stated. Her goal is to be a positive influence on the community.

Hawn looks forward to the continuing support of the community to make The Licking News a success. She understands that the community sharing its stories and life events, helping to keep the people of the area united are vital aspects of that.

“I’m super excited about going on this adventure, and to continue the tradition of a newspaper that is focused on my hometown,” Hawn said.

“Some of my earliest memories are of reading The Licking News,” Hawn recalled (her parents were subscribers though they lived in Fulton). “My grandmother, Jewell Ellis, would write in The Licking News every time I visited and I loved reading it in the newspaper.”

“I believe this is the best possible outcome for the future of The Licking News,” said current owner and publisher Shari Harris. “I am confident that the newspaper will be in great hands with Heather Hawn at the helm, and I look forward to reading it for many years to come. Please welcome Heather and show her the support I have been blessed to receive over the years.”
