The Wildcats opened up the Cabool Holiday Tournament against the Mammoth Springs Bears on Friday, December 26, winning 47-43.
Defense came up big in the second and fourth quarters, holding the Bears to only 7 and 8 points. The team took care of the ball, scoring 30 points in the paint, and only had six turnovers.
Karson Walker scored 18 points, Jason Ingram finished with 17 points, and Conway Adey led the team with 9 rebounds.
In the second game of the tournament, the Wildcats faced the number one seed Bunker Eagles, losing 31-61, on Saturday, December 27. Bunker would go on to win the tournament.
Walker scored 16 points in the contest.
The loss moved Licking to the consolation side of the bracket, in a rematch against the Salem Tigers on Monday, December 29. The Wildcats lost to Salem, 72-41. The Cats played a great first half and were only down five at halftime, 23-28. Salem’s size and hot shooting in the third quarter was too much for the Cats.
Walker scored 16 points and Jett Sullins connected for 11 points.
Friday night’s game versus the Houston Tigers saw the Wildcats get back in the win column, 57-51.
The Cats shot 70 percent from two-point territory and controlled the paint all night. The defense forced 19 turnovers and scored 20 points off of them. Houston made a push in the second half hitting several long threes, but some key free throws by the team stopped their run and secured the win.
Walker repeated with 16 points and had 5 assists, Jason Ingram had 15 points, Adey had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds, and Sullins had 8 points with three big free throws at the end and also had four steals.
