Lady Wildcats show their grit

The Licking Lady Wildcats thrilled their hometown fans with a win over Summersville on Tuesday, October 7, in a battle of the Lady Wildcats.

A one set match with the Junior Varsity teams started the evening. Licking won the single set 25-17.

The Varsity Lady ’Cats took the floor next. Licking got the job done in three sets, 25-22, 25-12 and 25-20.

On Thursday, the Lady ’Cats took the short trip to Salem to face the Lady Tigers. The Junior Varsity squad was unable to pull out a win and fell in two sets, 23-25 and 19-25.

Licking’s Varsity squad turned the momentum in their direction, and despite a close end to the third set, won in three, 25-13, 25-15, 27-25.

The two Varsity wins had the team excited to take on the Eldon Tournament Saturday. Despite missing starter Jadyn Barnes due to illness and Lilly Reed, the team finished second in pool play before losing to Fulton in bracket play. Coach Tammy Gorman commented that Lily Godi and Addison Floyd stepped and played really well on Saturday.

In pool play, Licking vs. Montgomery County was a split, 23-25, 25-22; as was the Calvary Lutheran match, 23-25, 25-22. Eldon came out on top over Licking, 25-16, 25-18. Against Fulton, Licking won one of three but battled hard, 26-28, 25-23, 21-25.

Two good wins,” said Coach Gorman in regards to the Summersville and Salem matches. “We’ve battled this year to get wins and our sights were set to ‘give us October.’ With bumps in the road and a huge learning curve, things are slowly coming together. I am proud of our girls for hanging tough and fighting through adversity. Many times when adversity hits, people quit, and we haven’t quit. We are focused on the future of Wildcat Volleyball and I am proud of my girls…many would have folded.”
