Several members of the Licking High School Class of 2024 attended the Academic Reception on Tuesday evening, May 7. Academic honors and Citizenship Award winners were announced. Guest speaker Doug Smith challenged seniors to make a difference in the lives of other people, and to be inspired to do good to others. Smith said the average person spends 4.5 hours on their phone each day, and he encouraged everyone to use that time to visit a lonely friend or relative, to brighten their day.

The second annual Decision Day for seniors was held last Wednesday, and gave the graduating seniors an opportunity to share their postsecondary plans with each other and high school classmates. College, career and technical school, and workforce bound were all recognized. Education, medicine, law enforcement, technology and trade industries were prevalent. Janell Duncan, on behalf of rootEd, with Dr. Rinne, presented electronic prizes, and a career and technical school scholarship to Riley Moloney. In recognition of FAFSA application completion, additional prizes were won by drawing. The day began with a parent provided senior breakfast in the cafeteria before all the students met in the Sherman Hill Field House. First behind the police escort in Friday afternoon’s Senior Parade was Allie Decker and Calyn Huff. The parade tradition started in 2020, due to COVID restrictions and has become part of Senior Week now. Families and friends lined Main Street to cheer for the LHS Class of 2024.
