On Tuesday, January 13, the Wildcats traveled to Mountain Grove to face the Panthers.
In the varsity game, the Cats saw a tough defense from the Panthers that held the scoring in check. The Cats continued to play hard and work as a team, fighting back from down 24 at one time, getting back to an 11-point deficit by the end of the game, losing 57-68.
Logan Buckner scored 16 points, Karson Walker added 16 points, and Jason Ingram had 11 points and 5 assists.
The JV played hard but came up short, losing 36-54. Grove’s size in the paint gave the Cats trouble when trying to score around the rim, but the young Cats kept playing hard until the end, with a big fourth quarter that saw them score 18 points and hold Grove to only 10. Easton Stoops led the team with 13 points and Dylan Treco added 10 points.
On Friday, the Wildcats welcomed the Iberia Rangers for a Frisco League matchup for Homecoming.
In the varsity game, the Cats were looking for retribution for an early season loss in the Frisco League Tournament and were focused on staying perfect in the Frisco League regular season standings. The scoring started a little slow for the first couple of minutes of the game, then the Cats turned it on to lead 14-3 after the first quarter. The scoring continued throughout the rest of the game, and the Cats continued to play great team defense, forcing 21 turnovers that turned into 21 points for Licking. The defense held their starters to only 23 total points on the night. The Cats finished off the Rangers in the fourth quarter, holding them to only 5 points while scoring 15.
