Wildcats add two conference wins

By Coach Chris Harris

The Wildcats started the week off by hosting conference opponent Crocker. After a little bit of a slow start, the Cats took off defeating the Lions, 60-23.

The defense set the tone for the game, collecting 15 steals on 18 total forced turnovers, scoring 24 points off those turnovers. The defense held Crocker to single-digit scoring in three of the four quarters.

Jason Ingram led the team with 17 points, Karson Walker had 15 points and 5 steals, and Conway Adey added 12 points and 9 rebounds in the win. The team’s record improved to 4-3 and 2-0 in the Frisco League.

In the JV game, the Wildcats came out on top, 54-37.

The Cats’ defense in the first half gave them a 30-point lead. A second half push by the Lions cut into that lead but fell short in the end.

Parker Huff had a huge first quarter, scoring 19 points and finishing with 24, Will Hackman and Dylan Treco added 7 points each in the win. The JV record improved to 2-1.

On Friday, the Wildcats traveled to Laquey for a conference game against the Hornets. This was a rematch of the first-round game of the Frisco League Tournament. It had the same results, as the Cats came out on top, 40-16.

This game was a slower paced game than the earlier matchup. The defense was at its best, holding Laquey to only four first half points, shutting them out in the second quarter, and keeping them in single digits for the other three quarters. Our defense made it hard for the Hornets to get any offense going and allowed us some easy transition baskets. The Cats held a 15-4 lead at halftime and came out to start the second half scoring 14. Licking added 11 in the fourth quarter.

Karson Walker led the team with 13 points and Jason Ingram added 11. The Wildcats are now 5-3 and 3-0 in the conference.

“Even though it wasn’t a high scoring game for the Cats, I was proud of the team on how they handled Laquey’s defense, creating opportunities for each other for open shots.” ~ Coach Harris

The JV got the win against Laquey, 44-39.

The offense started off slow and was down three at the half, but a strong defensive effort in the third and a big offensive surge (the Cats scored 24 points in the quarter) gave Licking a 14-point lead to start the fourth. Laquey made a push in the fourth and got within five, but the Cats were able to hold on for the win.

Parker Huff had 18 points, 15 coming in the third quarter, to lead the team and Will Hackman had 13 points. The JV record is now 3-1.

Our next Varsity game is in the Cabool Holiday tournament at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 26, against the Mammoth Springs Bears.
