Win over Iberia highlights JV ’Cats’ week

THAYER 61, LICKING 37
THAYER, Mo. – On Tuesday, January 28, the Varsity Wildcats traveled to Thayer to face the #3 state-ranked Class 3 team and district opponent.
The first half was a back-and-forth battle as the Wildcats gave Thayer some problems on both ends of the floor and were within six points at halftime. In the second half the Wildcats struggled to hit shots, and Thayer was able to extend their lead to 11 at the end of the third quarter. The Wildcats continued to play hard but were unable to mount a comeback. The final score was 37-61.
The Wildcats were led by Roston Stockard with 15 points.
The JV Wildcats worked hard and played tough throughout their game against the Bobcats. The game was close in the end but the Wildcats came up short and the final score was 43-47.
Parker Huff led the team with 14 points, going 4 for 6 from three-point range in the first half; Logan Buckner added 13 and Conway Adey had 10 points.
BELLE 49, LICKING 43
LICKING, Mo. – On Monday, January 27, the JV Wildcats opened the first round of the Licking JV tournament against the Belle Tigers. It was a close game from start to finish, but in the end the young ’Cats fell short, 49-43.
Jason Ingram and Logan Buckner each had 11 points to lead the team and Conway Adey added 10.
LICKING 39, IBERIA 26
On Saturday the JV finished up the JV tournament with two games, the first against Iberia. Last time the ’Cats played Iberia it was a double overtime thriller, but no overtime was needed this time as the ’Cats took care of business in four quarters. The JV’s defense turned it up in the second quarter holding Iberia to just two points. In the fourth quarter the ’Cats built a ten-point lead and secured the win 39-26 to move into the fifth place game.
Jason Ingram led the team with 12 points and Logan Buckner added 11.
ST. JAMES 52, LICKING 35
In the 5th place game, the JV faced off against the St. James Tigers. A slow start to the game offensively hurt the ’Cats as St. James had a 17-4 first quarter lead. The JV continued to work hard, but St. James was able to slow down the ’Cats. The final was St. James 52, Wildcats 35.
Conway Adey led the team with 12 points.
