New speed limits for Licking streets

     During the July meeting of the Licking Board of Aldermen, Ordinance 672 was passed unanimously by the board. This ordinance re-established speed limits for the streets of Licking, effective immediately.

Streets around parks, or narrow congested streets may be limited to 15 mph, residential areas will primarily be limited to 20 mph, and the remainder will be set at 25 mph, including North Main Street, Old Salem Road and Maple Avenue.

Streets or portions of streets limited to 15 mph include:

• Cedar Street between Beth Street and Church Street

• Charles Street between Glendale Street and Deer Lick Street

• Church Street

• Deer Lick Street

• Dogwood Street

• Hickory Street

• Maplecrest Street

Streets or portions of streets limited to 20 mph include:

• Beth Street

• Brian Street

• Campbell Street

• Carter Street

• Cedar Street between Highway 32 and Beth Street

• Chad Street

• Charles Street between Rosemary Street and Glendale Street

• College Avenue

• Craven Street

• Dorsey Street

• East Friend Street

• Glendale Street

• Green Street

• Industrial Drive

• Karla Street

• Kimble Road

• Kirk Street

• Martin Street

• Myers Street

• North Friend Street

• Old Ridge Road

• Park Street between Wildcat Street and Maple Avenue

• Robnett Street

• Rosemary Street

• Rodgers Street

• Rust Street

• Sackett Street

• School Street

• Scott Street

• Sherrill Street

• Sugar Maple Drive

• Walker Street

• Walnut Street

Any other street within the city limits not specifically named in the ordinance or other ordinances will have a speed limit of 25 mph. Any state highway within the city limits will have speed limits posted by MoDOT.

The board voted to approve the contract with the school for the school resource officer. The contract amount increased from $35,000.00 to $40,000.00 this year, which the school district will be reimbursing the city for his services.

City Administrator/Clerk Rhonda Kirkwood presented to the board an employee benefit and Lagers package. The board will review the package and discuss the issue further at next month’s meeting.

Department Head Reports:

LPD Chief Pat Burton: The new vehicles are getting updated. Mayor Scott Ogden participated in firearm training with the police department. Grant Wilson had shared that he would be bringing Congressman Jason Smith to tour the new police department while they are in the area for farm tours.

LRFD/LFD Chief Bobby Hearty: The department is planning to have a meet and greet breakfast on a Saturday morning next month, with pancakes, sausage and scrambled eggs. He requested the purchase of a Blackstone grill for the fire department and city to use for future events, at a cost of approximately $397.00. The rural board will be purchasing one. The board approved for the city to purchase one. A discussion was had regarding the purchase of hoses.

Supt. of Utilities Donnie Trout: The work on culverts on Campbell Street is almost complete. After it has settled, asphalt will be put down, then barricades will be removed. A leak at the pool was looked into, and a valve was discovered to be open. There is also a very small leak that the pool company recommends leaving alone at this time, but there is some disagreement on this. City Administrator Kirkwood will get in contact with the pool company and the city will keep an eye on the situation. The fence at the recycling center is being worked on. A new meter was installed at the well. The board will be discussing what it will take to add sewer services for a property on Shafer Road. The water project update included that the well drillers are coming back, and Maggi will be back this week. Jackson Township has asked for oil and assistance from the City at Oscar hill. They are asking for approximately 200 gallons of oil and two employees. The City will be getting bids to see how expensive it would be to asphalt the parking lot at Deer Lick Park and to replace the mower for the tractor; bids will be presented at next month’s meeting. Archer-Elgin is back in with the hydrovac for the lead line project. The treatment plant project is going well and on track. The city needs to order road oil at $2.60 per gallon; the board approved the seeking of bids.

City Administrator/Clerk Rhonda Kirkwood: The cash statement reports from Progressive Ozark Bank match the City’s reports. The City is continuing to work with a resident and the insurance company regarding sewer line damage.

LPD Corporal Kenny Santee reported that he is working with MoDOT to get signs about No Jake Braking to notify truckers who pass through town.
