Obituary – Geneva M. Black

Geneva M. Black, of Duke, Mo., passed away Monday, June 9, 2025, at the age of 90.

Geneva was born in Colorado, on March 5, 1935, to Charlie and Elizabeth (Rath) Rose. She had three sisters, Evelyn, Mildred and Dorothy; and two brothers, Bobby and Gary.

Geneva married Donald Eugene Humphrey and to this union five children were born; Mary, Donald, Wilma, Mildred and Teresa. They divorced in 1962. Geneva married Wilfred Black in 1963 and in this union they had one child, Susan.

Geneva grew up on a farm. This is where she got her love for the outdoors. She loved camping, gardening, canning, and floating on the river. She loved spending time with her kids, grandkids, and great-grands and great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Evelyn and Dorothy; and two brothers, Bobby and Gary; her husband, Wilfred Black; two daughters, Mildred and Susan; and a great-grandson, Bill Dotson.

Geneva will be greatly missed by her surviving family, which includes: her children, Mary Barton, of Lowry City, Mo., Donald Humphrey and wife, Barbara, of Edgar Springs, Mo., Wilma Burton of Rolla, Mo., and Teresa McElfresh and husband, David, of Duke, Mo.; sixteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and extended family and many friends.

A funeral service for Geneva M. Black will be conducted at 12 p.m. on Friday, June 13, 2025, at the Calvary Fellowship Church, 29570 State Route J, Duke, Mo. Interment will follow in the Anutt Cemetery. A visitation for family and friends will be held prior to the service beginning at 11 a.m. at the church.
