Ask Paul Abbott and Matt Macek about their new business, 4 His Kingdom Lawn Care, and they’ll tell you, “It’s a God thing.” The two look at their new business as an opportunity to be a caretaker of God’s land and His people.
Abbott and Macek worked together at a Casey’s General Store in northwest Iowa in 2012. They followed different paths from there, but both paths led to Licking, Mo.
Macek moved to Licking in 2024 to live near his parents, who had relocated to Licking the previous year. He became assistant manager at Casey’s General Store, in Licking.
Abbott was already in Licking by that time, having moved to the area in 2023. In June of 2024, he applied for a job at Casey’s General Store. Macek saw his application and recognized his friend’s name – Abbott was hired.
As they reconnected, the men discovered a shared dream of mowing and helping people. They started 4 His Kingdom Lawn Care to fulfill that dream and to serve others. The business is a business, they explained, but it is also a ministry.
“The name originated from the Holy Spirit,” Abbott explained. “It’s a God thing, all the way. We are serving God and helping others.”
It may mean taking a little extra time on a job to make sure it is done right, to the best of their ability, or perhaps it means spending a little time with a client who just needs someone to listen. Regardless, their mission is to do what needs to be done, and no job is too large or too small.
Abbott and Macek describe their rates as “affordable,” and the price for a job is customized to fit the project. Every yard is different, and they are willing to negotiate prices. Though they continue part-time at Casey’s one day per week, both are working full time at their new business.
In addition to mowing and weed eating, 4 His Kingdom Lawn Care offers removal of downed trees and cleanup projects, power washing, edging, hedge trimming, basic tree trimming (with a pole saw) and basic landscaping. They are insured and references are available upon request. The area they serve is Licking and, in general, a 15-20 mile surrounding radius. Houston, Montauk, Edgar Springs, Success, Roby and Evening Shade are all areas to which they travel.
When asked about their plans for off-season work, Abbott and Macek said they believe projects will develop which will allow them to continue their mission of service. In the meantime, they are keeping their options open and listening to hear what their clients may need.
To reach Abbott or Macek, they can be messaged on their Facebook page, 4 His Kingdom, or you can call or text Paul Abbott at (712) 539-2833, or Matt Macek at (712) 540-8219. You may need to leave a message, but they will get back with you as soon as possible.
