The Licking Music Department presented their Spring Concert on Sunday, April 27, at the Sherman Hill Fieldhouse on the campus of Licking High School. In the corridor of the building, the Licking High School Art Department showed their artwork from the year, including their ribbon winning work from the Frisco League Art Competition earlier this semester.

The Junior High Band, consisting of sixth and seventh grade students in their first or second year of band, presented three numbers. High School percussionist River Vestal accompanied, along with Ms. Crystal Frailey.

Junior High Choir, made up of seventh and eighth grade students, also performed three pieces, ending with a fun a capella number “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun,” with the assistance of Music Director Brianna Link and accompanist Ms. Crystal Frailey.

The High School Concert Band, featuring eighth through eleventh grade musicians (band has no seniors this year, and only one junior) presented two numbers from their district competition and one number they will be performing at graduation.

The LHS Concert Choir, with ninth through twelfth grade vocalists, performed two pieces from competition and one which they will sing at graduation. Nine choir seniors were recognized by Director Link for their contributions to the choir.

In addition to the Choir and Band performances, Gold Rating earners at the District competition performed at the concert. The Girls Double Quartet, Percussion Ensemble, Vocal Soloist Nicole Paolella, Mixed Double Quartet, Trumpet Soloist Gwen Campbell, Vocal Soloist Paige Kilby, and Senior Girls Trio will all be competing in the State Competition May 2.

Both bands, both choirs and the other performances were well done and appreciated by the audience, which filled the west side of the gymnasium. This was Link’s final concert at Licking, as she leaves to move closer to family in West Plains. She will be teaching at the Willow Springs School District next year.

After the concert, many attendees took the opportunity to enjoy the artwork of the LHS Art Department. The talents of many young artists were evident in the showing.
