Moderate flooding after four days of rain

The Current River had crested by 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, with some flooding of roadways evident.

Up to 10 inches of rain was forecast for late last week for the Licking area. Thankfully, the total precipitation was just under six inches instead. Four days of rain still resulted in low water creeks flooding, basements filling and ditches overflowing in many locations.

Howell and Oregon counties both had substantially more flooding than Texas County, and two deaths occurred due to flooded roadways in West Plains. In Oregon County, Alton schools were unable to resume classes earlier this week due to roads being inaccessible to buses, and students there may be out of school for the remainder of the week.

The minor to moderate flooding of local streams and rivers in Texas County, while creating some problems, was nevertheless undoubtedly a relief to those still battling to repair the damages caused by the catastrophic flooding in and around Texas County in November.
