Fried fish, fundraising, music and more

Licking Downtown Inc. held their annual Fish Fry fundraiser Saturday evening at the Licking VFW Hall.
Fried fish by Paul Wade and friends with all the fixin’s was served beginning before 4 p.m., and Herman Hall began singing shortly thereafter, entertaining diners and workers with his live show “The 50s at 70.” The music set the tone for the evening, and some even took the opportunity to dance a few steps as they served fish. Seventy-seven meals were served dine-in, along with 50 carryouts or deliveries.
By 6 p.m., the dining area was nearly full and people were ready for the live auction, called by Johnnie ReVelle. A quilt and a painting depicting an early 1900s/late 1800s downtown Licking, both donated by the Restorative Justice Organization at South Central Correctional Center, were sought after items in the auction, as was Carol Fox’s carrot cake and paintings by Gary Duncan and Ellen Reynolds.
Several members of the Licking FFA Chapter also volunteered at the event, spending a good portion of the day setting up, then assisting with serving and cleanup.
Enough funds were raised at the event to replace several windows at the mill, and to assist with other maintenance needs. Organizers were grateful for all of the help and donations, and for everyone who attended the event.
