Obituary – Mary “Mavis” Holladay

 

Mary Avis “Mavis” Holladay, age 88, of Dixon, was born on May 20, 1936, at St. Paul, Arkansas, a daughter of Barrett Elvin David and Avis Mae (Vermillion) Holladay, and passed from this life on Sunday, January 26, 2025, in the Phelps Health, Rolla.

Mavis had accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and followed him in baptism at a young age and at the time of her passing, she was a member of the Hephzibah Holiness Church of Dixon.

Mavis was a missionary in nursing while in Canada and in the Amazons on a river boat. She was Nannie for many, many years to prominent people, such as the CEO of the St. Louis Cardinals, and the Hill-Rom family, who were the founders of the Hill-Rom hospital equipment. She had also taken care of her father, her mother and her sister. Mavis was very sharp minded and had memorized many sayings and poems.

Those left to cherish the memory of Mavis included: her three brothers, Francis Elvin Holladay, Phoenix, Arizona; Lawrence Marion Holladay, Las Vegas, Nevada; and Milford Triumph Holladay living in Brazil; her church family and many, many friends who loved her dearly.

Visitation was held for Mavis from 10 a.m. until the time of her funeral service at 11 a.m., all on Thursday, January 30, 2025, in the Hephzibah Holiness Church at 401 Hickory Street, Dixon, Missouri, with Bro. Archie Atwell officiating.

A private burial was held at a later time in the Licking Cemetery, Licking, Missouri under the direction of the Martin-Kloeppel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Dixon.

Memorial contributions in memory of Ms. Mary Avis “Mavis” Holladay are suggested to the Hephzibah Holiness Church, Dixon, with envelopes available at the church the day of her service or in care of the Martin-Kloeppel Funeral Home, P.O. Box GG, Dixon, Missouri 65459.
