Downtown Licking overrun with costumed creatures

The winners in the age four and under category of the Costume Contest at Licking’ Light the Night Festival were, left, Austyn Lewis (Grandma), first; right, Colt Nickels (corn picker), second; and center, Anola Nash (Poppy), third place.

The age five to eleven winners were, from left, Sierra Nickels, first place for her cowgirl outfit, McKinley ReVelle, second place for her portrayal of Wednesday and Thing, and Hailey Mashek, third place for her scarecrow.

First place in the age 12 and up category of the costume contest went to Stetson Stevens, for his depiction of Gary Hassell. Ryder Evans took second place with his chainsaw man, and Anna Bailie and Makayla Steinmann were third as a deer and hunter team.

The annual Light the Night Festival was a huge success Thursday, as trick-or-treaters filled downtown Licking on the hunt for candy, hot dogs, nachos and other treats. Organizations handed out candy along Main Street and in the parking lots of Fox Funeral Home and the United Methodist Church. Lines of costumed children and adults could be seen making their rounds.

Moonshine Xpress entertained this year, setting up in front of City Hall and playing their southern rock throughout the evening. Some brought along lawn chairs to sit and enjoy the music.

Mrs. Suzanne Blackburn and thirteen students from the Licking FFA Chapter helped to haunt the mill, and over 300 people passed through between 5:30 and 8 p.m.
