Two Licking businesses relocated in the month of October, from an office/storefront on Highway 32 in the Friendly Village Shopping Center, to a larger location at 204 Maple Street, across from the New to You consignment clothing store. The Sassy Hide began its move on October 1, and had a Grand Opening at the new location on October 12. Owner Amber Dailing moved her other business, Freedom Financial, over the following two weeks, and is now fully operational at the new location.

The Sassy Hide, which offers western apparel, began in 2021. Dailing initially traveled to craft fairs and events selling cow hides. She added western apparel, and over time the demand for cowhides gradually diminished. The Sassy Hide moved into the Freedom Financial storefront over the past year, and now occupies a larger space at the new building.

Dailing, known as the “Hat Lady” by some, stocks over 100 styles of ball caps at The Sassy Hide, including Hooey, Red Dirt, Kimes, Dale Brisby, Lane Frost and more. She even has a cap trade-in program, offering a $5 trade-in for your old cap toward the purchase of a new cap.

In addition, The Sassy Hide has men’s, women’s and children’s (size 4 and up) western clothing, men’s and women’s Corral and Circle G boots, leather belts, purses and more.

Dailing took over the accounting business that is now Freedom Financial in January 2013. Her mother, Janet Pelaquin, opened Tax Matters in Licking in 2012, and in 2014, they bought Stockard Insurance in Houston and relocated it to Licking, changing the business name to Freedom Financial. Freedom Financial offers bookkeeping services and income tax preparation, and is an Independent Insurance Agency. It offers auto, home, life and health insurance, specializing in Open Market health insurance.

Macey Harrison and Angie Smith are Dailing’s assistants. The three are all able to help you with any aspect of both businesses, Freedom Financial and The Sassy Hide.

With more space remaining inside the new building, Dailing is excited about the potential for growth, either by increasing the retail space or by renting professional office space. An easement connecting her business to the new location of Farmgirl Floral also may offer some possibilities in the future. But for now, she’s settling in and planning for the holiday season.

The Sassy Hide is having a special event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Saturday, November 9. They are partnering with Viandel Vineyards, of Mtn. View, to host a Fall Sip & Shop event. They invite you to treat yourself to some of the best wines in Missouri while you get an early start on your holiday shopping.

Business neighbor Farmgirl Floral, who has just moved to her new location on Highway 63 just a block south of Maple Street, is having a Grand Opening the same day, and Anna Mae’s on Main will also be offering shopping specials that day.

The Sassy Hide and Freedom Financial’s regular hours are Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Stop by and see them at their new location for your insurance and bookkeeping needs, or to shop their western apparel and accessories.
