Loss of long-time community activist

Bob Green, of Licking, passed away last week. Wife Leann, shown with Bob, along with their children and grandchildren, carry on his legacy of activism and volunteerism in Licking and Texas County.

Robert “Bob” Green, of Licking, passed away on Monday, September 23, bringing to a close decades of involvement in his community, church and country. His legacy continues through the impact he made on the lives of his family, friends and others, and through their outreach in the community.
Bob Green served his country for six years as a soldier in the U.S. Army, after which he worked in Rolla, eventually owning a mobile home lot there. Around 1976, he came to Licking and purchased Western Auto, on Main Street, where the VFW currently is located.
Green also started his real estate career while in Rolla, and when he moved to Licking, he worked as a real estate agent at his father’s agency, Ed Green Realty. Western Auto closed in 1986, and Green became the broker at Ed Green Realty in 1987, when his father retired. At the time of his passing, Green had celebrated 50 years as a REALTOR. He had served the local Ozark Trail Board of REALTORS as President for two terms, and as a member for 45-plus years. Green was a Life member in the Missouri Association of REALTORS and a Member Emeritus in the National Association of REALTORS.
Green’s community involvement included serving on the first PRCA Rodeo committee and being a significant sponsor in multiple community activities such as the rodeo, truck pulls, fireworks shows, school activities, and more. Green also volunteered hours to school activities, like working the baseball field. He was active in the Chamber of Commerce and served as a member or officer for the Licking Development Company. In addition, Green and wife, Leann, were part of the group who organized the Piney River Covey of Quail Forever.
Green was a faithful member of Licking Assembly of God church. He and wife Leann led a small group Bible study for many years, and he also hosted a men’s prayer group. While in Rolla, he was a Royal Rangers leader. “He shared his faith any time, any place and with anyone,” his obituary says.
As an active member of the Republican party, both in Texas County and in the State of Missouri, Green was an integral part of Texas County changing from having one Republican office holder to currently having only one Democratic office holder. He served as a delegate to the Republican National Convention for President Ronald Reagan, and was active as Chairman, Township Committeeman, and member of the Republican Party of Texas County for over 48 years.
Green was dedicated to God, his family and his community. The impact he had will likely be felt for generations to come.
