A few local artists recently gathered some of their best works, and we loaded them up and headed to a show in Rolla. The show is hosted by Arts Rolla, a group of artists and patrons of the arts from Rolla and the surrounding area, who host a different group each month. For the past several years, September has been our month. Our group, Current River Artists, is affiliated with the Texas County Museum of Art and History and we were happy to take 54 pieces of flat art, jewelry and quilts to our show. You will know some of these artists, but some will be a happy surprise.
It couldn’t be much easier to get there. Take Hwy 63 north to Rolla. Continue until you turn right onto 10th Street. Follow 10th Street past the high school and turn left at the top of the little hill onto Holloway. Turn right into the Centre parking lot and you’re there! Well, you do have to get out of the car and come in.
Refreshments and familiar, friendly faces await…not to mention the reason for the little trip…the local artwork! You’ll be able to grab a few snacks and wander the halls and check out the glass cases in front. If you see something you love that would make a great statement in your home, or perhaps a fun gift for someone at Christmas, that would be the time to get it. The artists have priced their art for your benefit as well as theirs. It’s an affordable, one-of-a-kind gift that helps give back to your community.
It’s not easy for an artist to put her work on the line and have no one show up. In fact, it can be discouraging. Some of the artists participating this year will be JoAnne Biros, Billie Jean Boley, Patty Burmeister, Jan Rensch, Ellen Reynolds, Connie Blaylock Wallace and Sandy Campbell.
Yes, as I mentioned, our artwork will be up throughout the month of September, but if you’re like me, you can still have the best intentions but forget to go. So plan a summer afternoon out. Come by the show, buy a bit of art, have an appetizer then go out for dinner and discuss that good feeling of supporting someone in the arts and that great feeling you have bringing back an original piece of art!
Please show up, have a little fun, and give us a little support. The Opening Reception will be THIS COMING Friday, September 6, from 5-7 p.m. Come and go as you like. We can’t wait to see who shows up.
