Licking Downtown, Inc., will host their Annual Fall Festival, Pickin’ on the Porch, on Saturday, September 21, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the historic Licking Mill. Returning this year is the live music on the porch, the Old Fashioned Quilt Turning, meet your first responders, and the Child I.D. program. Food and craft vendors, information booths, mill tours and fun and games will also be included in the event.

New this year is a Car Seat Safety Check-Up from 9 to 11 a.m., operated by the Texas County Health Department. The Licking Police Department will offer Child ID fingerprinting. Children and adults will be able to talk to firefighters, law enforcement, and EMS personnel and see some of their equipment and emergency vehicles. TCMH Licking Family Clinic will also have an outreach booth at the event.

The activities begin with a military tribute and opening ceremony at 9 a.m., followed by live music from the LHS Music Department. The Three C’s will return to the porch at 11 a.m. with their beautiful gospel and country music. Bring your lawn chair and enjoy the show.

And don’t miss the Old Fashioned Quilt Turning at 12:30 p.m. Christy Porter, Chris Storm and Joan Singer are looking for local quilters or quilt owners who would like to show their favorites at this year’s show. Call 573-674-2412 or come in to The Licking News office for a registration form that helps organizers keep track of what quilts will be there and organize them by style. Please return forms as soon as possible.

Kids’ Dummy Roping will be at 9:30 a.m., and stick around for the Hog Calling Contest at noon and the FFA Farmers Obstacle Course at 1:30 p.m.

While you’re at the festival, take the time to explore the mill during one of the tours that will take place throughout the day.

The Fall Festival is a fundraiser for the Mill to help with regular upkeep, insurance, mowing, etc. Future plans include getting the mill grinding and having regional mill tours which would attract visitors to Licking and help sustain the mill. Donations will be accepted at the Fall Festival and are appreciated.
