Butterflies released in memoriam

Kissiar Sunflower Patch hosted a butterfly release Saturday afternoon, August 17, at their location on North Main Street, Licking. Attendees were able to purchase butterflies before the event to release in memory of a lost loved one.
A short ceremony preceded the release, with organizer Cherie Kissiar reciting a heartfelt poem. Robert Stringer, of Ellis Prairie, offered a prayer, then his wife, Jeannie Stringer, sang “Amazing Grace.”
The bees enjoyed the sunflowers long before the butterflies were released.
Visitors collected the triangle-shaped envelopes containing their butterflies, then gathered in the sunflower patch, many standing near the sunflowers from which hung their memorial cards. Envelopes were opened and many shed tears as the delicate insects flickered from their paper containers.
Kissiar Sunflower Patch is a non-profit organization which raises funds to help terminally ill children make memories.
