The 2024 Texas County Livestock Fair was held last week at the Texas County Fairgrounds. In the livestock categories, at least 91 youth entries were made this year. In addition, numerous entries were made in the Horticulture, Field Crops, Ag. Production and Home Economics category. Several tractors were also on display in the Tractor Show.

The growth of participation in the fair was commended by Extension guest speaker and Missouri Cattlemen’s Association President Chuck Miller, who recalled the first Texas County Fair, when only a handful of entries were made. Miller held the position of FFA Advisor at Houston High School for several years, and now lives in Olean, Mo.

In addition to the presentation of awards Saturday morning, this year’s Texas County Farm Family was also recognized – Jimmy and Cynthia Ramsey, and children Mikendra and Carson, of Houston. They operate Ramsey Red Angus and are fifth generation producers in Texas County. The Ramseys also have a Century Farm.

A Farmer Appreciation Dinner took place at noon on Saturday and was organized by the Fair Board and sponsored by MU Extension. It was followed by the Livestock Sale in the afternoon.
