Farmers Market opens for the season

Market hosts Kathleen Borg and Jan Moloney welcomed vendors and shoppers alike early Saturday morning as the Licking UMC Farmers Market opened for the eighth season. They tended the Licking United Methodist Church’s booth, which offered market bags, baked goods, produce and handcrafted items that included aprons and latch hook hot pads/trivets. Borg was available to give hands-on instruction for the “gathering apron” (an apron used to gather produce from the garden), which she made and had available for purchase.

Vendors present for opening day included:

Mark and Leasa Cooper had wooden birdhouses, succulents, plants, scrubbies, dishtowels and baked goods.

Habina’s Elderberry Farm products focused on those produced from the elderberry, such as syrups, but there were also other fruit flavored jams and jellies, along with relishes from Tom and Brenda Habina.

Young entrepreneur Lillyonna Watts and her father, Kevin Watts work together on unique plaques, with artwork done by Lillyonna and outline wood burning done by Kevin. Baked goods were also available at the tent.

Susanna Kelley of God’s Grace Farm is a gluten-free baker. In addition to her baked goods she had herbs, goat soap and candles available.

Plants, flowers, baked goods and treats, cozies and hot pads were available from June Owens, including a friendly greeting for all.

Curt and Brenda Robertson of Rocky Ridge Farms had fresh produce and herbs, a wide array of baked goods, jams, jellies and shelled nuts. Their products are locally grown and processed, and they accept Senior and WIC Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program Benefit Vouchers.

Matt Moloney utilizes his artistic talent with woodworking to create unique utilitarian items and fun art. Moloney also had vintage items, plants and fresh produce.

The Licking UMC Farmers Market, located in the United Methodist Church parking lot at 208 S. Main Street, will continue every Wednesday and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. until August 24. Plan to visit weekly, as vendors will have different offerings available as the gardening season progresses. The market is free to vendors! For more information call 573-674-3686.
