Garden plants and flowers at the Greenhouse

The beautiful array of potted flowers and many types of vegetables are available at the Greenhouse located on Buffalo Road.

The Greenhouse on Buffalo Road is a new source of seeds, garden plants, annuals and perennials to begin this season’s garden or potted display.

Katie Neuenschwander began with a 4’ x 7’ greenhouse last year and expanded to a 24’ x 48’ greenhouse this year, her first for offering plants to the general public.

“I love to work with plants,” said Neuenschwander. That love is displayed in the healthy variety of offerings at the new Greenhouse.

Vegetables are started from seed and seed potatoes. Flowers are also started from seed or young plants, called plugs. A selection of herbs started from plugs is also available.

Neuenschwander’s cousin in Indiana, who owns a large and busy enterprise of four greenhouses, has helped with supplies, seeds and plants, along with encouragement and knowledge of propagation to the new entrepreneur. Her family, husband Menno and three young daughters, have also assisted and supported Katie in this venture.

The closure of a nearby greenhouse left a void in availability of early plantings for the area, which Katie decided to fill.

“I want to provide quality plants that people want,” she stated as her goal. “I hope to develop the quantity and maintain the quality.” She added that plant suggestions for the future are always welcome.

Some current plant selections available are tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, celery, eggplant, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, peppers, sweet potatoes, watermelon and muskmelon. A variety of vegetable seeds are also available. Strawberries have already sold out. There are numerous flower selections to choose from, individually potted or as beautiful mixed arrays.

The Greenhouse is located at 13635 Buffalo Road outside of Licking. From Highway 63, turn onto Shafer Road, then left onto Buffalo Road. Greenhouse will be on the left, past Miller’s Country Store (on right), and a distinctive brown house and brown shop on the left. The hours are Monday – Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
