Obituary – Donna L. Spurgin
Donna Spurgin was born on May 10, 1948, in Duke, Missouri. She was the daughter of the late Eldo Wilson and Carol (Miles) Wilson. She passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, in her home surrounded by family members in Flat, Missouri, at the age of 77 years.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband, Duane Russell Spurgin, and one oldest son, William Eldo Dayton; sisters Charlotte Wilson, Joyce (Wilson) Tyler and her husband, William Tyler, and Gay Wilson; two brothers, David Wilson and Dannie Wilson; and one sister-in-law, Mary (York) Wilson.
Donna attended school in Flat where she grew up. One day William Tyler brought his best friend who he had grown up with since childhood from the De Soto area to meet his girlfriend and family in a little town called Edgar Springs, Missouri. There they introduced Donna to Duane. Little did both of them know at that time, Duane and Donna would get married and William would marry Joyce, becoming their brother-in-law. Donna Louise Wilson married Duane Russell Spurgin on June 12, 1970, in De Soto. They were married for 51 years.
Donna had many jobs throughout her life, working at the shoe factory and USGS for a short time. The job she loved the most was Domestic Engineer. She enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, spending time outside, and playing computer and card games with family and friends. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She will be greatly missed by her surviving family which includes: her brothers, Gary Wilson, of Newburg, and Jim (Carla) Wilson, of Edgar Springs; sister Kimberly (Wilson) Karnes, of Edgar Springs; sister-in-law Jeanie (Heavin) Wilson; Donna’s three surviving children – son Dean Spurgin and fiancé Karen Frizzell, of Salem, daughter Kristine Andreas Gerbing, of Edgar Springs, and daughter Shayle Jett and partner Brett Wilson, of Newburg; ten grandchildren, including Shannon Schmidt, of Texas, Ashley Robles, of California, Winter Dayton and fiancé Mainard Hinson, of Edgar Springs, Duane (Mackinze) Spurgin, of Newburg, Dylan (Samantha) Spurgin, of Illinois, Donavan Spurgin and fiancé Morgan Houseman, of St. James, Alexis Spurgin, of Springfield, Taisha Sterling, of Newburg, Febra Dering and fiancé Joshua Harris, of Newburg, Kent (Kelly) Kellner, of Monett; plus 18 grandchildren, as well as many extended family members and friends.
