Good Friday marked the annual Carry the Cross event. Throughout Licking, the faithful came out early to bear a cross, honoring the sacrifice made for them by their Savior, who died on the cross for their sins.
Good Friday is the day Christ died on the cross, and Easter Sunday is the day Christ was resurrected.
Several churches participated in the Carry the Cross event, with single individuals to large groups holding one or more crosses and waving to passersby on the highway. Licking Residential Care also participated in the event on West Highway 32. Honks and waves were returned by many travelers, showing their belief. Cross carriers could be seen at around two dozen different locations from the north Texas County Line to the south Licking City Limits, and more could be found as you traveled south of town.
