The Sonshine and Rainbow Day School kicked off their school year on Thursday, September 5. There were a few tears as children and parents began a new routine separate from the other. But the volunteers at the Day School quickly spread “Sonshine” and had children smiling again.
The Day School has five classes of eight students each, for an at-capacity total of 40 students. They meet each Tuesday and Thursday, from 9 to 11 a.m.
Students practice their ABCs, numbers, colors, shapes, and general basics of academics. They also learn to follow directions, treat each other nice and be respectful.
“Our simple aim is to glorify God and build up children,” is their mission. And the theme of their first month was God’s creation.
The Day School operates fully through the work of volunteers. This year’s volunteers include Laken Akers, Diane Beers, Jessica Bloodgood, Jordan Burks, Jewell Crannell, Ann Hagan, Shirley Hart, Stephanie Kinder, Natasha Kinder, Brooke Kuhn, Ashley McDonald, Mary Anne Medlock, Janett Mitchell, Chris Nickels, Shellie Ogden, Jennifer Ogden, Belinda Poole, Natasha Prenger, Tressia Rodgers, Linda Smith, Chris Storm and Terra Wells.
