Artists invited to enter Open Art Show
These two paintings by Isabella Loncosky use corrugated cardboard as a canvas, and demonstrate the artist’s belief that “you can still create art” regardless of access to more traditional support media.
An Open Art Show is coming to Licking, and three prizes will be awarded in two categories (under 18 years of age, and 18 years and over). Artists and art lovers are encouraged to participate in the event.
Isabella Loncosky, of Cabool, is organizing the Open Art Show, which will be held at Texas County Museum of Art & History in Licking. Any art form will be accepted, and may include (but is not limited to) paintings, drawings, textile/fabric, photography, sculpture, ceramics, clay and other media.
Loncosky, who is going into her senior year at Southern Adventist University in Tennessee, is working on a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. She encourages anyone interested in art to participate in the art show.
“Even if things aren’t perfect, you can still create art,” Loncosky said. She is currently working on a series done on cardboard, and after graduation, she plans to travel as a missionary doing art therapy. She just copyrighted a coloring book that she will use to that end.
“I want to use artwork to share God’s love,” she explained.
Loncosky has been in several art shows and won awards for her work. She sees another benefit to the art show—an opportunity to connect with other artists.
Each person will be allowed to enter two works in the art show, and there is no fee to enter. Entries will be accepted at the museum on Monday, July 20, from 1-4 p.m. If an artist is unable to submit their work during that time period, they can contact Loncosky and make arrangements to have the artwork picked up.
Judges will decide the first, second and third prize winners in each age group. Everyone can view the artwork and vote for the People’s Choice award, on Tuesday, July 21, Monday, July 27, and Tuesday, July 28, at the Texas County Museum of Art & History, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. An artist’s reception will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28, and awards will be announced and prizes awarded at that time. Artwork will be returned to artists after the show.
