Kissiar Sunflower Patch Festival

People took photographs and enjoyed the sunflowers along the central walking paths of the patch.

Kissiar Sunflower Patch held their festival on Saturday at their location on North Main Street in Licking. Vendors offered crafts, food and drinks; the general store had a variety of shirts and other sunflower decorated items; and don’t forget the sunflower patch, where black oil seed sunflowers bloomed out nicely for the event.

Memorial cards were attached to many flowers that day, in memory of passed loved ones. Visitors enjoyed lemonade, barbecue, and put to use the many photo opportunities at the site.

Jimmy Cotner was selling quilts, sock monkeys and teddy bears at his location next to the general store. Cotner made a queen-size sunflower quilt for Kissiar Sunflower Patch to auction during this season, and had it on display. The Salem quilter, who also made last year’s quilt, sews his quilt tops on a 100-year old treadle sewing machine.

New at the patch this year is a cross shaped walking path in the center of the patch. It allows more access to the flowers throughout the patch.

Their next event is a butterfly release on August 17, at 4 p.m. The patch will be open for six to eight weeks, seven days a week, until the flowers say it’s the end of the season. See their Facebook page for hours and events.
