Crews working for Public Water Supply District (PWSD) #4 have been facing obstacles as they attempt to replace manual-read meters with radio-read meters. They’ve been threatened and had law enforcement called on them as they’ve made their rounds.
PWSD customers should anticipate crews of one to two (typically two) arriving in a Schulte Supply truck with a Public Water Supply District sign on the side. They will replace the meter, and at a later date, another crew will come through to install sensors.
New meters are being installed for all PWSD #4 customers, and the district hopes to have them activated by the end of August, to be utilized for September billing. Currently 900 of their 1,000 meters must be read by the consumer each month.
Consumers who currently read their meters will need to continue to read it at the beginning of August for their August bill, even if it has been replaced with a new one. If the new system isn’t ready to go for September billing, the district will post something in the newspaper and on their Facebook page telling consumers to read their meters.
A second project underway with the district is putting in larger diameter pipes from Shafer Road to Highway 32, in response to water pressure issues. There should be no interruption in service. When that project is finished, they will be placing new water line on the west side of Cameron Road from Highway VV to Robertson Drive.
