LHS Super Reunion draws a crowd

The Licking Super Reunion was held Friday and Saturday at The Resort at Boiling Springs. Months of planning culminated in a weekend of reuniting with old friends and classmates, while enjoying music, food and the great outdoors.

Steve Ritz, a member of the rock band KC Ritz, was excited to play at his own class reunion Friday evening. People brought lawn chairs and gathered to watch the band, while others enjoyed the music from campsites where they visited with friends.

The Comers, owners of the resort, cooked hot dogs and hamburgers Friday evening, served with beans and coleslaw. Their signature sandwiches were also served throughout the weekend, and biscuits and gravy and breakfast sandwiches made a good start to the day. While several partook of the resort’s food, many cooked at their campsites and invited friends to join them.

Saturday morning saw many enjoying the river or side-by-side rides throughout the area, while others shared a peaceful morning visiting. As the day progressed, more gathered, and clusters of people renewed acquaintances or met alumni who graduated generations before or after them.

Saturday evening’s karaoke contest saw Rachel Wallace winning it all, followed by Kimmie Harris in second place and Emily Greene third. The thunderstorm sent the DJs packing, but that didn’t stop people from mingling under canopies and waiting out the heavy downpour. After a hot afternoon, some took the opportunity to dance in the cooling rain. Then people gathered at campsites and cabins to enjoy more food and friendships.

Wes Haslag won a gun raffle, and gate admission was charged to attendees. Organizers were confident they would be able to recoup their expenses for the weekend reunion.

Janice (Gorman) Heavin spearheaded the organization of the event. Kimmie Harris and many others chipped in to help.

“It truly was an amazing experience and I believe everyone had a great time,” said Harris.
