By Sheriff Scott K. Lindsey, Texas County Sheriff’s Office

On May 27, 2024, at approximately 4:15 p.m. Texas County deputies responded to a residence on N Highway, in the Licking area, for a reported assault. A victim reported that Roger Counts had punched him and choked him. Deputies observed marks on the victim, consistent with the reported assault. While speaking with Counts he admitted to choking the victim. Deputies advised Counts he was under arrest, and he refused commands and was taken into custody after a brief altercation. A deputy was struck in the face by a blow from Count’s elbow and suffered minor injuries. Counts was transported to jail.

Prosecuting Attorney Parke Stevens charged Roger L. Counts Jr., age 24, of Licking, Mo., with domestic assault 2nd degree, assault 3rd degree special victim and resisting an arrest for a felony. Counts is being held in the Texas County Jail pending a $5,000 cash only bond.

The above charges are mere accusations and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
