Area resident Grant Heithold has announced his candidacy for the U.S. House to represent Missouri’s 8th Congressional District. The primary election will take place Tuesday, August 6, 2024, with the general election to be held Tuesday, November 5.

“This nation has been blessed by hard-working people who have given their lives for the freedoms we enjoy,” states Heithold. “I believe the majority of our Republican Representatives in Congress are out of touch with the people they are supposed to be representing. They are out of touch and we are out of time!

“Some people say it’s too late, but I am still optimistic that this can be turned around. This is why I’m running. I look forward to meeting with people and being a part of the solution….”

Heithold’s priorities include:

Close the Border. The current situation at the U.S. – Mexican border has been and is contributing to serious, out-of-control and costly problems for the U.S. Child and human trafficking continues to escalate. This trafficking produces more profit than the drugs, because for-profit, children can be used multiple times in one day, repeatedly being raped and molested. Watch the movie – Sound of Freedom. This is evil at its worst. We can’t keep sweeping this under the rug. The New York Times reported early last year over 85,000 children are missing… where are they?

While feeding, housing, clothing and assisting in the education of children is a Christian thing to do, there has to be some accountability for those on the receiving end. Our border and authorized personnel are overwhelmed with the influx of illegal aliens. We cannot properly take care of our own citizens, let alone the estimated 10 million and growing that have crossed our borders illegally and are being placed in areas near you!

One should ask how many of these illegal aliens are also criminals/terrorists, and are coming to the states with the intention of illegal activity? This open border is bringing in record amounts of fentanyl. We need the border closed before it’s too late.

Out-of-Control Debt. Our national debt is now approaching 35 trillion dollars and is at a pace of increasing one trillion dollars every 100 days, which we may not be able to pay back for generations to come, if we don’t crash first. American people are being forced through taxation to fund items that they, on a personal level, do not agree with, such as abortion and transgender procedures. Where is American freedom in this? Please no more status quo answers and platitudes. With out-of-control inflation, again, American citizens cannot even support themselves or their households.

Non-biased education. The media is not providing non-biased news. With biased reporting and questions remaining unanswered, they completely support only their agenda, further insulting the American public, patronizing them and insinuating they are unable to think, reason and decide for themselves. Seeking non-biased alternative media is crucial; the time of “all the problems with no answers” presentation must end.

There is also a lack of knowledge about government representation and positions from a local level and up. This representation could make a difference in decisions being made that affect every citizen’s life.

One could reasonably surmise that current politicians are NOT defending U.S. citizens and that their personal agendas are being funded at record levels.

My responsibility if elected is to represent the people of this district by listening, really listening to them, with the intent to create an environment where people can flourish personally through the freedoms our Constitution declares. I want to encourage self-sufficiency in which people have value in what they’ve accomplished. I want to help people realize that there is a God who loves them, whom they can trust to get them through any circumstances.

Heithold moved from Nebraska to rural Salem, Mo., with his parents while a freshman in high school. He holds an Engineering Degree from the University of Missouri-Rolla (now Missouri S & T).

Prior to accepting work in the engineering field, he taught junior high and high school math and chemistry. Moving into the engineering field, he helped support the operations of nuclear power plants, rising to the position of Lead Engineer in construction package closures before initial startup. Upon returning to his local roots he farms and runs a small business in Licking, Mo.

Heithold is blessed with his wonderful wife of 35 years, Lori, and three children who have families of their own.

He is a believer in Jesus Christ, as his Savior and friend.
