Texas County Primary Election sees nearly 29% turnout

Over 5,000 ballots were cast in Texas County during last week’s Primary Election. With 17,207 voters registered in the county, this was a 28.95% turnout.
In the state-wide election, State Auditor candidates Scott Fitzpatrick (Republican), Quentin Wilson (Democratic) and Dustin Coffell (Libertarian) each won their party’s election and will face off in November.
In Congressional District 8, US Representative District 8 candidates who are advancing to the November election include Jason T. Smith (Republican), Chris Reichard (Democratic), and Rebecca Sharpe Lombard (Libertarian).
The Missouri District 143 State Representative race in November will see Bennie Cook (Republican) running against Marsha Snodgrass (Democratic).
Constitutional Amendment No. 1 passed, with 82.288% of voters saying yes to continuing the one-tenth of one percent sales/use tax used for soil and water conservation and for state parks and historic sites.
Constitutional Amendment No. 2 passed, requiring all counties in the state to elect a county auditor, with 76.924% of the vote.
Constitutional Amendment No. 4 failed, with 80.323% of those voting saying NO to modifying current requirements regarding initiative petitions.
Constitutional Amendment No. 5 failed; 83.316% of voters casting ballots were not in favor of the amendment which would have phased out income taxes and authorized the expansion of sales and use taxes.
