First responders from the Montauk Rural Fire Department (MRFD), Dent County Sheriff’s Office, Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP), Salem Memorial Hospital and Air Evac joined members of the MRFD Board at an Open House on Saturday at the fire station.
Children were offered a chance to view firetrucks, an ambulance and patrol cars, and could speak directly to the first responders. A fire hose demonstration provided the opportunity to cool off on a hot day in the spray. Inflatable bounce houses, a child size replica of an Air Evac helicopter, and games like the duck pond and ring a cone were also available for the kids to enjoy. Prizes were handed out to children who attended.
A meal of hot dogs, chips, cupcakes, cookies and lemonade was served free to all present for the open house.
The effort put forth by the volunteer firefighters and board members in this community outreach shows their dedication to the citizens of the area they serve. They expressed their gratitude to all the first responders and all the members of the public who came to the event.
