The LHS band performed several numbers at Sunday afternoon’s concert.
The Music Department for the Licking R-8 School District presented their Spring Music Concert at the Sherman Hill Field House on Sunday afternoon, April 26. Performing were the Licking Elementary School fifth and sixth grade singers, Beginner Band, the High School band and concert choir, the Cat’s Meow, and three ensembles who advanced to the State Competition.
Band Director Crystal Frailey led the Beginner Band through three pieces to begin the concert. They were followed by the fifth and sixth grade singers, with Choral Director Kerri Chafin.
The Junior High Women’s Choir, with some talented soloists, were the next to perform.
One ensemble group of instrumentalists (a Mixed Brass Trio) consisted of Gwen Campbell, Reece Lozoya and Ronald Rife. They performed the piece that earned them an exemplary rating at District Competition. Two ensemble groups of vocalists also performed. The Licking Ladies Sextet, consisting of Gwen Campbell, Josie Gifford, Lily Godi, Kylee Rinne, Reece Lozoya and Ava Walker harmonized beautifully in performing the number that advanced them to the state competition. They were followed by Licking Girls Trio, with Lily Godi, Josie Gifford and Ava Walker.
The High School Band performed several numbers during the concert. They were followed by the school’s a cappella group, the Cat’s Meow. They showed their talent despite some difficulties in getting their microphones to work. The vocalists displayed no need for the equipment, projecting their voices beautifully while singing “When Will I Be Loved,” arranged by Deke Sharon and Ann Raugh.
The full High School Concert Choir provided an impressive conclusion to the music, performing two songs from the District Competition, along with two other numbers.
Senior musicians Ronald Rife, Sadie Hutsell, Araya Manson, Katelyn Mitchell, Isaac Rinne, Abigail Penn and Aleksey Cook were recognized. Achievements were announced and certificates were handed out as a finale to the afternoon.
It was a wonderful afternoon of music, and Band Director and Choir Accompanist Crystal Frailey, Choral Director Kerri Chafin and all of their student musicians should be proud of their efforts.
