Obituary – Bonnie A. Hunter

Bonnie Ann Hunter, 85, of Newburg, Missouri, passed away peacefully at her home on February 15, 2026.

Bonnie was born on July 6, 1940, in Evening Shade, Missouri, to Robert and Lorene Sanders. On January 7, 1960, she married the love of her life, Billy Hunter, in Richland, Missouri. Just last month, they celebrated an incredible 66 years of marriage—a testament to their enduring love and devotion.

Bonnie was a deeply spiritual woman who attended church faithfully throughout her life. She shared a special friendship over many years with her spiritual leader and pastor, Bobbie Mathis, and cherished her close bond with her cousin, Glenda Ross. Bonnie was active in her church community, blessing gatherings with her beautiful spirit, her singing voice, and the music she lovingly created on her self-taught guitar. When she wasn’t making music, she enjoyed listening to her favorite bluegrass songs.

Above all, Bonnie’s greatest love was her family. She raised her children with love and respect, values she carried into her relationships with her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She was truly a beacon of love for her entire family.

Bonnie was a woman of many talents and hobbies. She crocheted, knitted, and quilted countless blankets for her family, each one made with care and devotion. She also loved the outdoors and found joy in tending her flowers and gardens, painting decorative rocks to brighten her spaces, and spending peaceful moments beside her Koi fish pond.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Billy Hunter; her children, Jerry Hunter and wife Sherry, of Newburg, Missouri; Brad Hunter and wife Shelly, of Diggins, Missouri; Jeffery Hunter and Dorie Roberts, of St. Louis, Missouri; Amanda Moreland and husband Joe, of St. James, Missouri; and Dana Brown of Steelville, Missouri. She is also survived by her sisters, Wilma Evon Dukes and Phyllis Lavena Wilson and husband Vernon; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents; her sons, Damon Russell Hunter, Kevin Ross Hunter; and Nicky Gene Hunter; and her daughter, Collette Jo Hunter.

A visitation was held on Thursday, February 19, at 11 a.m. at James & Gahr Mortuary of Rolla. Funeral services followed at 12 p.m., with interment at Big Piney Cemetery. The service was officiated by her nephew, Mike Wilson.

Pallbearers were Jessy Hunter, Ryan Hunter, Alex Hunter, Derek Seery, Gary Dukes and Robbie Dukes.

Bonnie Ann Hunter’s life was a beautiful reflection of faith, music, devotion and unconditional love. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew her.
