On Friday, January 2, the Licking High School Volleyball team of 1975 and the Licking High School Boys Basketball team of 1975-76 were recognized at halftime of the Licking-Houston boys basketball game on the 50-year anniversary of their award-winning seasons.
The 1975 Licking Wildcat Volleyball Team made history by winning the first Missouri State Volleyball Championship. That year, the state championship was not divided into classes, so this team won first against all sizes of schools in the state. The 1975 Licking High School Volleyball team has been inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame.
This tremendous accomplishment showed the toughness, grit and determination of these athletes. Scheduled practices combined with extensive extra hours in the gym honing their craft helped them build a legacy of greatness for Licking volleyball.
Coached by Mary Menne and Jane (Gohn) Richardson were Sandra (Jackson) Aiken, Penny (Floyd) Coday, Glenna (Driesel) Adovasio, Gina (Wulff) Wood, Linda (Benson) Huff, Debbie (Krewson) James, Trish (Kissiar) Knight, Tammy Oligschlaeger, Jean (Kissiar) Potts, and Kathy (Karnes) Smith; Deanna Smith was manager.
The 1975-76 LHS Wildcat Boys Basketball Team also had an excellent season, and their grit, discipline and heart set a standard that Wildcat basketball continues to strive for every year. This team finished fourth in the Missouri State Tournament, and during their season they represented Licking with class and pride.
Coached by Steve Hauck and Gary Gorman were Jimmy Davis, Gary Edgar, Henry Fisher, Joe Gorman, Scott Huff, Sterling Huff, Steve Lloyd, Jim Lyon, Doug Wulff, Mike Whitaker, Donnie Maple, Roy Taylor, Steve Craig, and John Walker; Darrell Cook and Coy Ward were managers.
LHS Principal Dr. Jarad Rinne recognized these Wildcats and thanked them for what they gave to Licking High School athletics and for setting the bar for generations to come.

Outstanding effort and hard work by the young ladies! Congrats to the guys also!
