On Monday, December 8, the Licking Wildcats traveled to Cuba to face their Wildcats. It was a big night for the Licking Cats, coming away with two wins on the road.
The night started with the Licking Junior Varsity getting a 47-14 win; the Cats’ stellar defense held Cuba to 11 first half points and 3 in the second half, including shutting them out in the third quarter. The team played much better on defense, which led to a multitude of fast break buckets. Parker Huff led the JV with 17 points and Trent Wood added 12 points in the win.
In the Varsity contest, the game stayed a little closer, with the Cats down two at the end of the first quarter. The Cats came out on fire in the second quarter, scoring 19 points, and led at halftime 32-25. The Cats never gave the lead back on their way to victory, 58-50. The defense held one of Cuba’s best players to only two points, Licking won the rebounding battle, and offense hit 14 of 18 from the free throw line, including going 6-for-6 in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter to secure the win. Licking’s varsity record improved to 2-3.
Karson Walker finished with 25 points and was 10 of 13 from the FT line, with 5 rebounds, and 3 steals. Conway Adey had 13 points and 5 rebounds, and Jason Ingram had 12 points and 8 rebounds.
Thursday the Licking Wildcats hosted conference opponent Stoutland, winning 61-58.
The Cats jumped out in front quickly, scoring 22 points in the first quarter thanks to four 3’s by Karson Walker and good team defense holding the Tigers to 11 points. The Cats held the lead throughout the game, even when Stoutland made an offensive push and drew close at the end. Two big layups by Conway Adey in the closing minutes were enough for the win.
Karson Walker had 22 points with 60 percent shooting and had 13 assists, Jason Ingram added 20 points and 8 rebounds, and Conway Adey contributed 14 points and 12 rebounds.
The Wildcats will host the Crocker Lions on Tuesday in Frisco League action.
