Obituary – Bonita “Bon Bon” Alers

Bonita Ann (Moorfield) Alers was born January 21, 1947, in Danville, Va., to Dudley and Vinnie (Fielder) Moorfield. She left this world May 23, 2025, after a lengthy illness.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Frederick W. Alers.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Mark Yates, of Licking; three grandsons, Tony, of Licking, Toby, of Rolla, Tyler, of Houston, and her sister of the heart, Victoria Anderson and her husband, Richard, of Holts Summit, Mo.

Bonita moved to Licking in 1961 with her parents. She married her high school sweetheart, Fred, in December of 1967. They were together for thirty-seven years.

Bon Bon (nicknamed by her first grandson) had a colorful life. She worked at Rawlings, sewing uniforms, traveled with Fred when he was a truck driver, worked as a waitress and bartender, and drove trucks in their trash collection business. She retired in 2008 to enjoy her family, crafts and dogs.

She loved to read everything from history to science fiction. She crocheted doll clothes, shawls, slippers, doilies, and tablecloths. She always had a book, a ball of yarn or thread and a crochet hook in her purse.

Bon Bon was always ready for her next adventure. With a giggle and a twinkle in her eye, she was off on a late night breakfast or a citywide yard sale.

She was a little eccentric, a lot of fun, and is deeply missed by her loved ones.

A memorial visitation is planned for Friday, May 30, 2025, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Fox Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left at www.foxfh.net. Arrangements are entrusted to Fox Funeral Home.
