Obituary – Carol S. Chilton
Carol Sue Chilton passed away peacefully on January 28, 2025, at the age of 83.
Carol was born to Orville and Nona (Ramsey) Roberts on June 29, 1941. She spent most of her life in Texas County. Carol graduated from Houston High School in 1959. She was working in a local restaurant when she caught the eye of her husband-to-be. Carol married Richard Chilton on August 10, 1961; together they created a loving home for their three children: Bryant Chilton, Melissa Pursifull and Denise St. John.
Carol worked various jobs around Houston, but her greatest accomplishment was taking care of family and friends; her home was host to many nieces, nephews and friends, especially during the summer. She absolutely loved cooking and taking care of whomever showed up and she was one of the best cooks around. Carol loved her family, especially all her grandkids and great-grandkids; she was affectionately referred to as Grandma Carol or Granny. Two things the grandkids could count on when they stayed at her house, they were fed well and if she heard one of them cough during the night, get ready because she was coming with the Vicks Vapo-rub and a warm wash cloth. Carol was a member of Boone Creek Baptist Church where she attended until her last few years.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard, of 44 years; and her sisters, Nadine Bushong, Shirley Williams and Sharon Gardner.
Carol is survived by her children, Bryant Chilton and wife, Beth, Melissa Pursifull and husband, Terry, Denise St John and husband, Aaron; grandchildren, Kendra Goforth and husband, Scott, Dustin Pursifull, Jonathan Chilton and wife, Hannah, Ethan Pursifull and wife, Gina, Austin Pursifull and wife, Racheal; great-grandchildren, Logan Stines, Owen Pursifull, Kamryn Goforth, Emersyn Goforth, Tucker Pursifull, Raelynn Pursifull and Hadley Chilton; brothers, Bill Roberts, David Roberts and wife Linda; brothers-in-law, Gene Williams and Jim Gardner; and sister-in-law, Vada Chilton; and a multitude of nieces, nephews and others she loved as her own.
Carol (Mom) will be missed beyond words, but her family is thankful she is free from pain and the struggles of this old world.
John 14:3: “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, then ye may be also.”
Per Mom’s request, we did not have a visitation or traditional funeral, just a graveside service was held for immediate family. One of the things she requested was to sit and drink a Coke in her memory; per her request we would like to have a get together later and remember her and we will drink a cold Coca Cola.
