Obituary – Margaret L. Lane

In loving memory of Margaret Lee Lane. Born October 16, 1940, in Litchfield, Illinois, to Mary Brooks and Robert Worthington, Margaret passed away August 24, 2024, in Licking, Missouri, surrounded by family.
Margaret Lee Lane was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend who touched the lives of many with her love, kindness and compassion. Margaret was the living epitome of kindness and love. If you knew her, you knew that she loved her family fiercely and without end, even if she didn’t agree with them. She was also so kind to those that she knew and would help others if she could.
She was one of fifteen children. She met the love of her life, Elvin Lane, who was her bus driver when she was sixteen. They dated for a few months and were married on September 21, 1957, in Newburg, Missouri. They brought into this world three children: Elvin Lee Lane Jr. (Huck), Janet LouAnn Mohrman, and William Duane Lane. This began the legacy she leaves behind today of seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Robert Worthington; siblings, Don Swires, Patricia Riddle, Alice Myers, Dottie Poppenhouse, Robert Swires, Roma Straub, Linda Worthington, John Worthington and Elizabeth Knight; grandchild, Bobby Doyle; and great-grandchild, Madison Lane. She is survived by her children, Elvin Lee Lane, Jr., and Carol, of Licking, Janet LouAnn Mohrman and Charles, of Raymondville, and William Duane Lane and Donna, of Rolla; grandchildren, Vance Lane and Charlene, of Licking, Starlet Thomas and Andrew, of Kokomo, Ind., Kelly Trentham and Matthew, of Raymondville, Alex Mohrman and Hank Lute, of Highlandville, Jennifer Lane and Brad, of Mountain Grove, and Codi Light and Justin, of Rolla; great-grandchildren, Alizaya Doyle (19), Jasmine Cross (18), Logan Lane (18), Kamryn Lane (18), Lilly Cross (17), Italy Doyle (15), Hunter Trentham (15), Mason Lane (9), Raine Thomas (8), and Gideon Thomas (7 weeks); siblings, Rhonda Soland, of Augusta, Wis., Irene Lane, of Roland, Okla., LaVonne Just, of Roland, Okla., and Sharron Folsom of Roland, Okla.; and too many nieces and nephews and other loved ones to mention.
Margaret Lane had a passion for reading; she started with romance novels but eventually fell in love with mysteries and crime novels. She loved spending time with her family. This was the highlight of her life. She enjoyed the hobbies of cross-stitch and word searches also. She also enjoyed watching squirrels and birds. She cleaned the motel in Licking for years until she retired; before that she worked as a waitress in Fort Wood and did sewing at Rawlings in Licking, along with laundry at Hickory Manor.
A service celebrating Margaret’s life will be held Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at Fox Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. with service to follow at 2 p.m. with Mr. Rick Mosher officiating. Interment will follow at Licking Cemetery. Pallbearers are Vance Lane, Logan Lane, Matt Trentham, Hunter Trentham, Alex Mohrman and Hank Lute.
