Obituary – Bonnie L. Phelps

 

Bonnie L. Phelps, formerly of Rolla, Mo., passed away on Friday, July 26, 2024 in Nixa, Mo., at the age of 92.

She was born on August 24, 1931, in Edgar Springs, Mo., to parents Dewey and Florence (Clark) Black. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Karl Gabel, father of Chris Gabel Krone and Karlene Gabel Stewart, and her second husband, Clyde Phelps; one sister, Betty (Black) Phelps and husband, Ralph; brother, Dorris Black and wife, Willie; brother, John B. (J.B) Black; daughter, Delores Phelps Poe and husband, Gary; and sons-in-law, Mike Krone and Kenny Stewart.

Bonnie loved the Lord and was a member of Central Community Church of God in Rolla.

She worked at the Hillcrest Drug (now Sinks) doing bubble packs, and retired at the age of 86.

She loved to sew, knit and crochet. She made sure everyone got socks, dishcloths and microwave bowl cozies! She was the family resident pie maker…she made sure everyone had their favorite pie at family gatherings.

Bonnie, Nanny to many, will be loved and missed by her surviving family, which includes two daughters, Chris (Gabel) Krone and Karlene (Gabel) Stewart; three grandsons, Kevin Krone, Scott Krone and wife, Glenda, and Bryon Poe and wife, Darla; one granddaughter, Tori (Poe) Weller and husband, Curtis; two great-granddaughters, Hadlee Poe and Jessica Penfield; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service for Bonnie L. Phelps was conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at Null and Son Funeral Home in Rolla. Interment followed in the Edgar Springs Cemetery. A visitation was held for family and friends prior to the service at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
