Fall Wildcat Baseball Recap

By Coach Cole Roark

The Licking WIldcats have finished a phenomenal fall campaign. They finished the season with a 24-2 record, and while that is certainly impressive, there are many other team accomplishments that are noteworthy. In no particular order, these are some reasons to be excited for the spring 2027 season.

This fall saw the Wildcats win the Frisco Conference Tournament, while outscoring opponents 21-1 in their two games. Pitchers Trent Wood, Conway Adey and Isaac Running Horse combined to allow one hit in the tournament as well.

Licking played the toughest schedule possible in the fall, facing a combined opponent record of 276-164. They outscored those opponents 291-43 on the year. Iberia and Alton would have been undefeated on the fall, barring their respective losses to Licking.

Licking used a total of nine varsity arms to compile 145.2 innings pitched. They allowed only 74 hits and 24 earned runs. The staff also accumulated strikeouts at a good clip, striking out 188 while only walking 80. This led to a staff ERA of 1.15, and a staff WHIP (walks and hits divided by innings pitched) of 1.057. Typically, for an individual, a good WHIP is 1.3 or lower.

On the offensive side of the baseball, the Wildcats were equally impressive. The team had a .379 batting average, an on-base percentage of .509, and a staggering OPS (on base plus slugging) of 1.059. They stacked up 254 hits, 184 singles, 42 doubles, 11 triples, and 17 homeruns. They also, as a team, drew more walks (144) than strikeouts (126). The team was also very productive on the bases, stealing 139 bags, and were 94.3% successful on those attempts.

To sum it all up, this team is very fun to watch, and you should make it a priority to see them in the spring campaign.
