Obituary – Marie Wofford Urban

Marie Wofford Urban, age 93, was born November 9, 1932, and passed away at her home in Montauk, Dent County, Missouri, on September 2, 2026, with her loving family by her side, on the Wofford farm where she was born, north of the Saltpeter Cave and Ashley Creek.

Marie became a Christian in 1946 and joined Mount Olive Baptist Church, which met at South Fairview #71, Dent County School, where she also graduated eighth grade. She went on and graduated from Licking High School in 1949, where she played volleyball.

After graduation, Marie worked for Crow Motors in Licking as a bookkeeper. There Marie met Richard Urban, and they married in 1951, moved to the St. Louis area and established a painting company.

The Urbans returned to the Wofford farm in 1994. Marie was treasurer of Mount Olive Cemetery (the former Davis Cemetery). She was honored as the longest-serving member of Mount Olive Baptist Church, where she was Church moderator.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Lonnie Lee Wofford and Fannie Louisa Hubbs Wofford; husband, Richard Brook Urban; in-laws, Carl and Wilamina Urban; son, Michael Urban, and daughter-in-law, Teresa Urban; granddaughter Rebecca Urban; siblings, Earnest Wofford (Ailene), Utah Wofford (Fern), Eula Wofford Gray (Lorse), Obe Wofford (Betty), Wayne Wofford (Shirley), and infants: Guy Wofford and Cledith Wofford.

Marie is survived by her youngest son, Dale Urban, of the home; eldest son, Douglas Urban and wife, Julie, and granddaughter, Elizabeth Urban, of Ballwin, Mo.; grandson, Nicholas Urban and fiancée, Ashley Bouckaert, of Fenton, Mo.; granddaughter Brooklin Urban and friend, Dallas Cofer, of High Ridge, Mo.; grandson Garrett and wife, Hanna Urban, of St Louis, Mo.; grandson Jessie and wife, Teresa Roche, of Fenton, Mo.; and great-granddaughter Cameron Urban and great-grandson Cannon Urban, of Fenton, Mo., and a special niece and helper, Deloris Gray Wood.

A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, October 10, 2026, at 11 a.m, followed by a carry-in-dinner at Mount Olive Baptist Church of Dent County, 3477 Highway VV, Licking, Mo.
