The annual Kids’ Trout Derby was held Saturday at Montauk State Park. The drizzly, cool weather may have kept some away, but 50 youth under the age of 15 brought in their catch to be weighed for entry into the drawings.
A grandparent summed it up by saying that, regardless of whether their names were drawn or not, the kids were already winners. A day at Montauk Park, catching fish and spending time with family and friends was a great reward for all who participated.
Drawings were held for prizes in two age categories, 11 and under, and 12-15.
Drawings for gift certificates were held first. In the 11 and under age group, Eve S. was drawn from the Heaviest Stringer entries and Drake S. was drawn from the Heaviest Fish entries. In the 12-15 age group, Lathan B was chosen from the Heaviest Stringer entries and Lilly T. was chosen from the Heaviest Fish entries.
These drawings were followed by drawings for the Ray Parker Memorial Trophy drawings, in the same categories. Trophy winners in the 11 and under age group were Brooks A. (Heaviest Stringer) and Sawyer L. (Heaviest Fish). Those winning trophies in the 12-15 age group were Karleen B. (Heaviest Stringer) and Caroline T. (Heaviest Fish).
Prizes were awarded courtesy of the Ray Parker Memorial Fund, and the Parker family were on hand to award the trophies to the winners.
