Intercounty Electric Cooperative held their Annual Meeting of the Membership Friday at Licking’s Old City Park. Rain threatened throughout the evening, resulting in the cancellation of some events, but mostly storms bypassed the event.
A new format accompanied this year’s event, beginning with the time of day, 3 to 8:30 p.m. The health fair was held at Intercounty Auditorium earlier in the spring, and craft and business fair vendors moved west of the park Friday to the rodeo grounds.
Activities for kids were plentiful, with coloring contests, drawings for bicycles, yard games, face painting, pictures with Buddy Bear and in a bucket, pony rides, a petting zoo and a Missouri State Highway Patrol vehicle safety simulator. Kids and grownups enjoyed the car cruise-in, with 14 entries despite the weather concerns.
The Kimble Parker Band entertained before and after the business meeting, and enjoyed a good crowd listening to their performance.
Near the end of the business meeting, results of voting were announced. Angela Mallery, North District, and James Swindell, South District, were reelected to their positions, having been unopposed. Chosen to replace Tom Fleener in the Central District was Paul Gillam, of Dent County. Also nominated for the seat had been Kelly Chapman and William Strader, Jr.
Retiring Board Secretary/Treasurer Tom Fleener was recognized for his 34 years of service to the cooperative with a resolution from the Missouri House of Representatives, presented by Rep. Bennie Cook (Dist. 143). Rep. Cook also presented a House Resolution to CEO Doug Lane recognizing the 90th anniversary of Intercounty Electric Cooperative.
Hot air balloon rides and the live line demo were unable to be held due to weather concerns.
