Barrel racing fun at Licking arena

Dust and Diamond Barrel Co. held the first race of the 5D Barrel Race Buckle Series on Wednesday, June 17, at the Licking Chamber of Commerce Arena. Featuring Peewee, Youth and Open races, the event attracted several area barrel racers.
Winning first in the Peewee race was Blakely Eaton, riding Singer, with a time of 39.512 sec. Sayge Burnett was second, riding Mel, finishing in 44.566 sec.
In the Youth race, Lyla Uder (Dealer) finished in 16.698 sec. to take first place in 1D. Second was Josie Licklider (Skittles) at 17.052 sec., and third was Tinlei Todd (Gypsy) at 17.086 sec. First in 2D was Kindel Edgar (Cash) with a time of 18.125 sec. and first in 3D was Presley Cox (Creed), finishing in 26.714 sec.
In the Open 1D category, Melba Headrick (Jay) was first with a time of 15.855 sec., and Nikki Wilson (Racing 2 A Fling) was second, finishing in 15.946 sec. Winners in 2D were Peggy Link (Billie) first with a time of 16.443 sec., Lyla Uder (Dealer) second in 16.524 sec., Emily Burnett (Cash) third at 16.615 sec., and Nikki Wilson (Little Debbie Moon) fourth in 16.621 sec. Montana Higgins (Vegas) finished first in the 3D race with a time of 16.711 sec. and Josey Licklider (Skittles) was second, finishing in 17.052 sec. Kindel Edgar (Cash) was first in the 4D race (17.216 sec.) and Makala Eaton (Ace) was first in the 5D category (22.839 sec.).
The first of the series of races had been scheduled for June 3, but the wet conditions made the arena unsafe for the event. The next event at the Licking Chamber of Commerce Arena will be the 5D Jackpot Sunday on July 5th. The Expo will begin at 1 p.m., with the race at 2 p.m.
Future races are planned at the arena for July 12, July 26, August 9, August 23, September 6, September 20, October 4 and October 18. Spectators are invited, and the concession stand will be open. Check out the Dust and Diamond Barrel Co. page on Facebook for updates on times.
