These TCMH and TCMH Family Clinic – Licking staff were first to greet attendees of the first annual Community Health Fair. From left, seated: Helania Wulff, Director of Public Relations, Marketing, & Physician Recruitment, Anita Quick, Controller, and Katelynn Atchley, Director of Human Resources; and standing: Whitnie Shepherd, LPN-IV, Emily Wiseman, FNP, and Shelby Ellison, RN, Case Management.

The first annual Community Health Fair hosted by Intercounty Electric Co-op at IECA Auditorium in Licking was held on Friday morning, May 29. The health fair was previously held the day of the Intercounty Electric Co-op annual meeting, but the time and scheduled events for that meeting have changed this year.

Moving the event to the auditorium allowed for more space, more health care providers and more services for those attending. It also allowed better shelter on a rainy Friday morning (with less humidity and no mud).

Texas County Memorial Hospital, TCMH Family Clinic-Licking staff, Texas County Home Health of the Ozarks staff and nursing students from Texas County Technical College teamed up to offer a variety of information and services to those attending, including blood draws for a reduced fee, blood pressure checks, and brochures on many health related concerns.

Phelps Health and Siteman Cancer Center staff brought giant inflatable lung and colon displays that could be walked through to learn more about these organs. Delbert Day Cancer Institute oncology nurse navigators answered questions about cancer, and women could participate in a cervical cancer screening study involving testing for HPV. Other staff answered questions about their EnrollU resources to help with financial issues.

Representatives from Texas County Health Department, Ozark Action, Licking Residential Care, Three Rivers Hospice, Phelps Connections for Seniors, American Family Insurance, 4 Life Body Scans, Rehabilitation Services for the Blind, and Tri County Center for Independent Living were also at the event to offer information about the services they provide that can benefit your health.

Turnout for the event was decreased some this year, but the move indoors provided many advantages. As people become more aware of the change in dates and location, attendance is expected to improve. Watch for information next May about the IECA Community Health Fair so you don’t miss it!
